International Girls in ICT Day 2016 events

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat partnered with several stakeholders in Guyana to organise a national event for Girls in ICT.

The partners that collaroborated with the CARICOM Secretariat were the Ministry of Education (including Culture, Youth and Sports; MIS Unit; and the National Centre for Educational Resource Development - NCERD), Ministry of Public Telecommunications including the EGovernment Unit and the National Management Frequency Unit - NFMU), University of Guyana, the Cyril Potter College of Education - CPCE and the CARICOM Youth Ambassadors (CYAs).

The Deputy Secretary General of the CARICOM Secretariat and the Ministers of Education and Telecommunications were among the persons who gave remarks in the Opening Ceremony. 

There were several workshops which students participated in such as video journalism, photography, cyber security, mobile application development, animation, women in ICT business, and education and ICT.

The activities also included an exhibition from a number of ICT businesses from the private and public sectors.

Almost 300 students participated from secondary schools in and around Georgetown under the theme: "Tech girls for a tech world. Girls and women in ICT; beneficial to every country".

The event was a success!!
