Rich Thanki is a Co-founder and Head of Technology of Jangala, a UK-based charity dedicated to enabling internet access for people in need of urgent humanitarian aid or longer-term development assistance. Big Box, Jangala’s first product, is a flexible tool that allows for quick and low-cost deployment of internet access in many new aid contexts. it fits in a small backpack and can create high-quality, scalable Wi-Fi using any form of connection to the internet.
Working with Microsoft Rich helped advanced globally applicable affordable internet application solutions using open spectrum technologies. AT the policy level, he has written influential papers on radio spectrum. He has also advised Mawingu Networks, the Kenyan rural broadband pioneer.
