The number of devices connected to Internet, the variety of digital services and subscribers' requirements for mobile access speed are increasing every year. Telecom operators, regulators and developers of telecommunication equipment are trying to meet new challenges, update network architecture and interconnectivity arangements , as a result new generations of networks appear.

IMT-2020 or 5G is a fifth-generation mobile communications standard that features high data speeds with minimal delay. Achieving these and other requirements underpinning the technology is difficult and requires high investment, changes to the infrastructure of existing mobile networks, rethinking allocation of radio frequency bands, defining business models for technology deployment and answering other important questions.

In order to help countries in forming strategies for launching and developing 5G technology, the International Telecommunication Union together with the Ministry of Science and ICT of the Republic of Korea is holding a series of trainings on "Launching Next Generation Mobile Communications Networks (IMT-2020/5G)" in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

The training on launch of 5G technology was held in Kyrgyzstan from 24 to 26 August 2022. It was attended by 67 specialists, representing the Telecommunication Administration, regulatory bodies, telecommunication operators, equipment manufacturers, scientific and research organizations and private sector of the country.

The first day of the training was devoted to a general overview of technological trends, the key features of 5G networks and various aspects of the launch of 5G networks, especially in terms of new services and their promotion strategy, and the relevant business models of operators.

One of the key events of the training was the expert report on the safety of human exposure to EMF and the round table on "The Effects of 5G on Human Health", which were both held on the second day of the training. The report cited multiple scientific articles and reviews that confirm the safety of 5G networks for health while complying with international regulations. At the same time, during the discussion that followed, it was noted that the Kyrgyz Republic has stricter requirements that ensure high protection of public health.

The last day of the training was devoted to various aspects of 5G/IMT-2020 network implementation at the national level, including approaches to allocating new radio frequency bands, infrastructure sharing issues and planning to disable legacy generation networks to focus efforts on 5G/IMT2020 network development.

"Today we are on the threshold of a new technological breakthrough - the introduction of fifth generation wireless networks - 5G. Almost the entire territory of our country is already covered by 4G, but the amount of information is increasing every year, and there is a need to introduce new technologies, such as 5G, which will allow us to improve the quality and quantity of services provided to the state bodies and the population of the country. 5G is not just a new and high-speed mobile communications standard. The introduction of 5G networks has the potential to transform our perception of the world in the long term and lead to the transformation of society as a whole",
- shared Talantbek Imanov, the Minister of  of Digital Development of Kyrgyzstan.
