From 6 to 8 September 2022, the training on " Launching Next Generation Mobile Communications Networks (IMT-2020/5G)" was held by the International Telecommunication Union in Kazakhstan. IMT-2020 or 5G is a fifth-generation mobile communications standard that features high data speeds with minimal delay. The event was attended by more than 75 specialists representing government agencies, telecom operators, equipment manufacturers, research organisations and the private sector of the country took part in the training in Nursultan.

Askhat Orazbek, Vice-Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry, launched the training and shared the plans for the future. He noted that over the past year the Ministry of Digital Development together with Telecom operators has done a lot of work to provide communications in settlements on the program "250+", the next step is to improve the quality and expand coverage through alternative tools - communication satellites. Also a lot of work has been done on the level of improvement of laws - the possibility for operators to lay networks using telecommunication poles that will significantly speed up the process of providing Internet in remote settlements is provided as well as tax exemption.

The first day of the training was devoted to a general overview of technological trends, the key features of 5G networks and various aspects of the launch of 5G networks, primarily in terms of new services and their promotion strategy, the respective business models of operators. At the training, GSMA representative from South Korea gave presentation on Experience of launch of the first commercial 5G/IMT-2020 networks in the world, including experience of initial launch of new generation network, changes in tariff, network and services development during the period of commercial 5G operation in the context of general strategy of South Korea on digital transformation of the country economy and the role that 5G/IMT-2020 plays.

The second day of training focused on the standardisation of IMT-2020 networks and various aspects of 5G/IMT-2020 network deployment at the national level, including approaches to allocating new radio frequency bands, launching 5G networks and infrastructure sharing issues. The third day was devoted to planning for the demise of legacy networks in order to focus on the development of 5G/IMT-2020 networks. In addition, there was presented a report on long-term trends in 5G networks and forecasts for the development of 6G networks.
