GC-CIS Youth Group was created in the context of the ITU Youth Strategy, which aims to involve young people in ITU's work on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Through this initiative, GC-CIS participants have the opportunity to discuss the prospects and challenges associated with the development of information and communication technologies and, during high-level events, present the vision of the youth of the CIS region on digital transformation and the contribution of ICT technologies to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

On the eve of the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), in June 2022, the first ever Global Youth Summit "Generation connect" was held. Key topics of the Youth Summit included the global digital divide, youth access to online education and digital skills, the digital gender divide, online safety, e-waste management, future employment, digital entrepreneurship and the role of technology in climate change. The program of the Youth Summit was developed during open consultations within the framework of regional youth groups, including GC-CIS, in 2020-2022.

The new composition of the GC-CIS will continue to work to increase youth participation in building an inclusive, sustainable digital future for all. Young people aged 20-26 who have interests and/or experience and knowledge in the field of digital technologies and digital transformation, have good communication and analytical skills, are able to competently express thoughts in writing, work in a team (including online) who speak English. The participation of young people representing youth movements or organizations is encouraged.

To apply for inclusion in the Generation Connect Youth Group for the CIS countries (GC-CIS), you must fill out an online form by 25 September, 2022 23:59 Moscow time. Those who have been selected will be informed on 3 October, 2022 personally via email.
