Meeting of the Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (EGTI)

The 7th Meeting of the Expert Group on Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (EGTI) took place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 4-5 October 2016. The meeting was organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and hosted by ITU. The EGTI meeting was held back-to-back with the 4th Meeting of the Expert Group on ICT Household Indicators (EGH), which will also took place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 5-7 October 2016.

EGTI meetings are open to all ITU members and experts in the field of ICT statistics and data collection.

The objective of the 7th EGTI meeting was to examine the contributions received from members of the EGTI online discussion forum over the current working period, with a view to finalizing the items under discussion. The outcome of the discussions was subsequently presented at the 14th World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS), which was held in Botswana, from 21 to 23 November 2016.

The main statistical topics discussed during the EGTI meeting were: the ITU price baskets; IoT indicators; the data collection on m-banking services; fixed network coverage indicators; and the guidelines for measuring international connectivity. In addition, the EGTI and EGH joint session discussed two standing agenda items: the use of big data in official statistics and the ICT Development Index (IDI).

The documents concerning the meeting, including the agenda, the logistic information and the preparatory documents for the discussions, are available in the EGTI online forum: http://www.itu.int/net4/ITU-D/ExpertGroup/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=23
