National Training Workshop on ICT Statistics

A National Training Workshop on ICT Statistics was held in Huye, Rwanda on 25-28 April 2017. The workshop was co-organized and hosted by the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA). It was attended by RURA staff as well as representatives from various government agencies involved in collecting ICT-related statistics, including the National Institute of Statistics Rwanda, the Rwanda Ministry of Youth and ICT and the Ministry of Education. The objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of Rwanda to produce national statistics and indicators on telecommunications and ICT that are internationally comparable and serves as a high-quality evidence-base for policy makers and investors.

The workshop provided comprehensive training on the definitions and methodologies of ITU’s administrative or supply-side and household or demand-side ICT indicators. The discussion and exercises included both the technical definitions of the different indicators as well as practical considerations of data collection and submission to ITU. The workshop gave participants an overview of ITU’s work on ICT statistics and ICT development benchmarking. It also discussed the importance of and mechanisms for national coordination on ICT statistics.
