This lunchtime talk on "Cybersecurity" will share information on ongoing and potential future activities that may be of interest to the ITU members and partners in this area .

ICTs are integral to the economic and social development of all nations, as well as to the development of the information society.  Security is an essential element of the operation and use of ICTs, and requires that all persons involved be aware of security and take action appropriate to their role. This lunchtime talk will explore some of the new activities being undertaken by ITU with partners in this area.

Experts from University of Jamaica, Data Security Council of India (DSCI), Nuix, and Oxford University will be there to present their views, share information on new activities in this area and answer your questions.

Week 2 - ICT statistics

Thursday, 25 September 2014

This lunchtime talk on "ICT statistics" will share information on ongoing and planned activities that may be of interest to the membership in this area. ICT policy makers and regulators need to be well informed about the ICT uptake in their countries, and compared to other countries.

ITU collects ICT statistics for 200 economies and over 100 indicators and publishes a number of statistical and analytical reports, including the Measuring the Information Society Reports, which include the ICT Development Index (IDI) and the ICT Price Basket (IPB). The annual World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium (WTIS), the largest global forum in this field, brings together delegates from all over the world, ranging from government ministers and business leaders to regulators, national statisticians, lead academicians and ICT data producers and analysts.

This lunch time talk will highlight recent global and regional ICT developments based on ITU statistics and benchmarking tools and present the ongoing work in the ITU statistical Expert Groups (EGTI and EGH), which will meet in Geneva from 15-19 September 2014. Delegates will also be briefed on the upcoming WTIS 2014 and the Measuring the Information Society Report 2014. The session will provide participants with an opportunity to learn more about ITU’s work on ICT measurement and engage actively in a debate concerning data collection, dissemination and analysis.
