This workshop on digital smart city/community policies and business models to ensure stakeholder involvement and yield sustainable development took place at ITU Headquarters (Room K) in Geneva, Switzerland on Tuesday, 30 April 2024, from 14:30 to 17:30 followed by the ITU-D Study Group 2 Question 1/2 meeting dedicated to smart sustainable cities and communities on Wednesday, 1 May 2024.

Background information

Smart cities and communities have taken off significantly in recent years with the multiplication of experiences and use cases around the world. Further growth would benefit greatly from sharing national experiences on the development and dissemination of the policies that frame their implementation. These policies, which vary widely from one region to another or from one country to another, should be studied, particularly policies and business models to ensure stakeholder involvement and yield sustainable development. This will make it possible to explore effective frameworks for the implementation and management of smart cities and communities for the delivery of services to benefit community members.
Organized around two sessions, the themes that will be developed during this workshop are: 1) the role of policies that enable smart city governance; and 2) the business models developed for the successful implementation of smart city and community development projects
