Workshop on Meaningful Connectivity – Innovation and Acceleration

Time and place: Monday, 8 May 2023 from 09:30 to 10:45, Geneva (Room C, ITU)

This workshop took place in conjunction with ITU-D Study Group 1 Rapporteur Group Question (RGQ) meetings. It was open to non ITU-D Members and the public at large. It addressed the mandate of ITU-D Study Group 1 namely "Enabling environment for meaningful connectivity”. Meaningful connectivity is a level of connectivity that allows users to have a safe, satisfying, enriching and productive online experience at an affordable cost.
More specifically, the workshop looked at how Meaningful connectivity can be achieved through innovative approaches proposed by the BDT innovation service.
To accelerate meaningful connectivity, we need to adopt new approaches. This workshop raised awareness about the growing digital innovation divide impacting the achievement of meaningfully connectivity and how this can be solved through accelerating five strategic objectives, and participants were asked to reflect on concrete example of what type of ideas they would like to address for each strategic objective. The workshop ended with proposals for countries to take these ideas forward.
