Biographies

Bryn Balcombe
CSO, Roborace and Director, Autonomous Drivers Alliance (ADA)

Bryn Balcombe is the Chief Strategy Officer for Roborace, a motorsport competition for human and AI drivers, designed to accelerate the research and development of Vehicle Intelligence and human-machine interfaces required for transportation of the future. His previous experience comes from Formula One where he architected and patented vehicle to infrastructure communication systems and developed the F1 Group’s first global media network. He has also consulted on technology strategy for organisations including the BBC and McCann Worldgroup and has a BEng in Mechanical Engineering & Vehicle Design.
Niels de Boer
Program Director CETRAN, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Niels de Boer is the program director for CETRAN, which is tasked by the Singapore Land Transport Authority to develop technical standards and regulations to enable trial testing and deployment of Autonomous Vehicles on public roads. CETRAN is also supporting the development of the TR68 Singapore Technical Reference for Autonomous Vehicles and potential revisions to this Technical Reference.
Jeongdan Choi
Assist VP & Principal Researcher, ETRI

Jegondan has been leading Autonomous Driving SW group since 2009, focusing on ICT(including SW, AI, 5G)-based autonomous mobile platform. In the meantime, to maintain the up-to-datedness of the precision map, real-time update software has been developed. In addition, a full package of an urban autonomous driving system has been implemented within the development team and is being tested at the Daedeok Research Complex. In recent, research on weight reduction and optimization of the algorithm is underway to apply the autonomous driving AI function module to low-power AI semiconductors. In 2017, she served as an advisor of Presidential Advisory Council on Science and Technology.
Miao Hui
Head of Autonomous Driving/ADAS, BYTON, China

Mr. Miao Hui is a generalist in autonomous driving technologies. Currently he acts as the Head of Autonomous Driving/ADAS department in BYTON, which is one of the leading start-up EV in China. Miao Hui owns solid knowledge and successfully delivered challenging programs on ADAS, Connectivity, V2X, and Autonomous Driving. After years of working experience in traditional OEM like Ford Motor Company and disruptor OEM like BYTON, Miao Hui demonstrate the deep understanding of building blocks of Autonomy in different aspects, including technical, regulatory, policy, business. Miao Hui was awarded “Expert of AEIA on Autonomous Driving” on Sep. 2018. AEIA stands for Automotive Electrical Industry Alliance, directed by MIIT. From Apr. 2019 he was nominated as “Expert of Autonomous” in the “AI Guide” group under GIZ GmbH’s “Sino-German Industrie 4.0 Project”

Charles Karl
National Discipline Leader, Transport Systems

Dr Charles Karl has over 35 years’ experience in ITS. He is currently the National Discipline Leader for Future Transport Systems at ARRB. His experiences cover a broad range of areas ranging from traffic management, network performance, and connected and automated vehicles. Over the last 5 years, Charles has led a number of trials and deployments of connected and automated vehicles ranging from shuttles to light and heavy vehicles. He is a member of ISO TC204 on ITS standardisation, and chairs the Scientific Research Group of the Australian New Zealand Driverless Vehicle Initiative (ADVI).
Sanjeev Sharma
Founder and CEO, Swaayatt Robots, India

Sanjeev Sharma, CEO of Swaayatt Robots, has been researching autonomous navigation, focusing on reinforcement learning and motion planning, for the past 11 years. Most recently, he's been developing autonomous driving technology that works in traffic with highly stochastic dynamics. His secondary research focuses on enabling autonomous vehicles to perceive their environment using only off-the-shelf cameras, and to navigate without the use of high-fidelity maps. Sanjeev holds a B. Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Roorkee and attended University of Alberta for his MSc (Thesis) in Computing Science
Sebastian Yee
Head of Autonomous Vehicle (“AV”), Testing & Simulation, Singapore Technologies Engineering

Sebastian Yee is the Head of Autonomous Vehicle (“AV”) Testing & Simulation for Singapore Technologies Engineering. Over the course of his career, he has been engaged in the development of both defence, and commercial vehicles. His work in the last five years has centred around the development, testing, and deployment of autonomous buses in Singapore’s national transport system. As part of this effort, Sebastian worked closely with government bodies to establish a structured testing paradigm for AV physical and virtual Verification & Validation (“V&V”) processes. He presently serves as both working group member for the formulation of the Singapore Technical Reference for Autonomous Vehicles, TR-68, as well as permanent member of the ST, Engineering Land Systems Safety Board (LSSB) for autonomous systems.
