FG-AN Workshop on “Advances in Autonomous Networks: 2023 and beyond”

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU), in collaboration with Rakuten, organized an FG-AN Workshop on “Advances in Autonomous Networks: 2023 and beyond” which took place on 24 October 2023 from 9h00 to 12h30 CET at the ITU headquarters, in Geneva, Switzerland in Room C, in the T Building. The workshop was collocated with the Study Group 13 (SG13) meeting. Remote participation was provided for the workshop.

The aim of this workshop was to elaborate on the current research, standards and proof of concepts about autonomous networks. Based on the work conducted within ITU FG AN, the key concepts in autonomous networks were explained, such as exploratory evolution in future networks, real-time responsive experimentation, dynamic adaptation to future environments.

Use cases illustrating the relevance of these concepts in real world were explored, along with an architecture framework and evaluation of trust that enables such use cases in future networks. Proof of concept studies in this area were described, which investigated specific parts of the architecture along with relevant use cases, demos and implementation tools. Further, a set of learnings and suggestions on the future steps in this area was provided, curated from the collaborative studies.

Target audience
Participation in the workshop was free of charge and open to ITU Member States, Sector Members, Associates and Academic Institutions and to any individual from a country that is a member of ITU who wishes to contribute to the work. This included individuals who were also members of international, regional and national organizations.
