Committed to connecting the world

RODRIGUEZ Miguel

Currently responsible for monitoring and evaluation of the Cities Footprint Project (www.huelladeciudades.com), which has the objective of assessing the Carbon and Water Footprints of three cities in the region (La Paz, Quito and Lima), in order to promote low-carbon and climate-resilient urban development. Water and Carbon Footprint applications for PC and smartphones have been developed and copyrighted. These are designed for individual users to enter data about their daily consumption in order to obtain the size of their Water and Carbon Footprints, which are put into a global context stating what would happen to the Earth's mean temperature and water resources if every person in the world consumed as many goods and services. A list of actions to reduce each footprint is then presented for the user to voluntarily select those that the user commits to act on. The user receives a Commitment act, on which are marked the actions selected, to remember and comply with them. The user can measure the footprint periodically, which is stored in the app, and can then retrieve past footprints (incl. his/her peers'), thus allowing benchmarking. The app can be used by students at schools and/or universities, as well as neighborhoods, among others.
