Introduction
The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) together with Global Forum on Human Settlements, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the World Urban Campaign are organizing the Session on "Smart Sustainable Cities & Communities", which will take place during the 14th Global Forum on Human Settlements (GFHS 2019) on 5-6 September 2019 in the United Nations Conference Center in Addis Ababa (UNCC-AA), Ethiopia.
This session will be held from 1545 to 1715 hours on 5 September 2019.
The GFHS 2019 will focus on the theme, “Sustainable Development of Cities and Human Settlements in the Digital Era", and will be supporting campaigns on smart city and the use of digital technology for inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities.

Objective
This session aims to provide a platform to discuss the role of
international standards in shaping emerging technologies in smart sustainable cities (SSC) and
in connecting SSC with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development goals (SDGs).
Target Audience
This session will bring together leading specialists in the field, from city planners to engineers, designers, policy-makers, government officials, regulators, academia and standards experts. Participation is free of charge.
