Agreed to launch an ad-hoc group on digital technologies for COVID health emergency, coordinated by Shan Xu (CAICT, China) and Ana Rivière Cinnamond, PAHO/WHO. The ToR will be circulated for remote consensus two-week consultation and approval via the FG-AI4H mailing list.

Topic group updates:
New TG on Endoscopy (TG-Endoscopy) with Jianrong Wu (Tencent Healthcare, China) as Topic Driver. The collaboration site for the new TG is here.

The 15th meeting of the FG-AI4H took place in Berlin, 31 May – 2 June 2022 to review updates to its ten deliverables and sub-deliverables, and review progress by the existing 24 topic groups.

One important topic of discussion was the ITU/WHO Global Initiative on AI for Health, as the platform to continue and scale up the work developed by the FG-AI4H. Initial views were exchanged and a refined proposal will be reviewed at the next FG-AI4H meeting.

Another important agreement was the adoption of the Ethics and governance of artificial intelligence for health prepared by the WHO ethics experts group with input from FG experts as FG-AI4H DEL01.

FG-AI4H leadership: there were no further changes at this meeting.

Topic groups:
TG-Neuro: created a new sub-topic group on scalable digital platform for proactive brain health, led by Seyed Khaligh-Razavi and Tom Sawyer (Cognetivity, UK). Reference:O-037.
TG-Sanitation: The TG was merged into TG-Outbreaks, due to identified synergies on the areas of study.

TG-Outbreaks (Outbreak detection): The TG was merged with TG-Sanitation with the following drivers: Auss Abbood and Alexander Ullrich (Robert Koch Institute, Germany), Khahlil Louisy and Alexander Radunsky (Institute for Technology & Global Health, US). An updated work plan and TDD will be prepared for the next meeting.

TG-Symptom (Symptom assessment): Martin Cansdale (Healthily, UK) joins Henry Hoffmann (Ada Health, Germany) as co-driver.

P - Helsinki, 19-22 September 2022

The 16th meeting of the FG-AI4H took place in Helsinki, 20-22 September 2022 to review updates to its ten deliverables including sub-deliverables, and review progress by the existing 24 topic groups.

One important topic of discussion was the ITU/WHO Global Initiative on AI for Health, as the platform to continue and scale up the work developed by the FG-AI4H. Based on the initial views exchanged at the Meeting O, a refined proposal was reviewed and supported at this meeting P.

Other important agreements were the agreement of three Deliverables (see below).

FG-AI4H leadership: there were no changes at this meeting.


Topic groups:
A new TG on traditional medicine (TG-TM) was created at this meeting. The Topic Driver of the new group will be Rajesh Kotecha (Ministry of Ayush, Government of India).
The new TG driver for TG-Derma is Harsha Jayakody (Flash Health, Sri Lanka).
TG-Dental co-driver Joachim Krois changed affiliation (Dental XR AI, Germany).
Deliverables update:

The 17th meeting of the FG-AI4H took place in Douala, 6-9 December 2022 to review updates to its ten deliverables including sub-deliverables, and review progress by the existing 24 topic groups.

The first day of the meeting was used for a workshop on AI for health, which explored four main topics: health system strengthening, infectious disease, outbreaks, health finance to support universal health coverage; innovation, entrepreneurial support, education; telemedicine, medicines, non-communicable diseases; and radiology (see link above).

FG-AI4H leadership: there were no changes at this meeting.


Topic groups:
Ivy Lee (American Academy of Dermatology, USA) is now a co-driver of TG-Derma, together with Harsha Jayakody (Flash Health, Sri Lanka)
The group confirmed that the driver for the TG on traditional medicine (TG-TM) will be Saketh Ram Thrigulla (Ministry of Ayush, Government of India).

No new deliverables were agreed at this meeting. All available deliverables were reviewed, their latest version is found in the FG-AI4H collaboration site.

The 18th meeting of the FG-AI4H took place at the premises of Harvard University in Cambridge, 21-24 March 2023 to review updates to its ten deliverables including sub-deliverables, and review progress by its 7 working groups and the 24 topic groups.

The day preceding the FG meeting was used for a workshop on AI for health at MIT premises, which explored the future of AI for public health and for smart cities for health, regulatory concepts, challenges of development & deployment of AI in clinical settings, AI for dentistry and advancing digital health through cross-sector collaborations.

FG-AI4H leadership: DAISAM co-chair Luis Oala changed affiliation to Dot Photon (Switzerland; luis.oala@dotphoton.com).

Naomi Lee, who is an FG vice-chair and chair of the WG-CE, changed affiliation to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE, UK; naomi.lee@nice.org.uk) as head of organisational transformation.


Topic groups:

The 19th meeting of FG-AI4H took place at the premises of ITU in Geneva, 3-5 July 2023. This was the last physical meeting of the Focus Group before its end of operations in September 2023. The first two days were regular sessions, and the third day was used for a workshop within the context of the AI of Good Global Summit "Expert Machine Learning Workshops". The meeting had 179 participants during the three days, with 76 joining in person and 103 remotely.

The focus of the meeting was to wrap up the documents that were sufficiently mature, define the next steps, and to provide a retrospective of the work accomplished and gather the community's expectations for the Global Initiative on AI for Health (GI-AI4H) being established jointly by ITU, WHO and WIPO.

Documents and activities that reached a good maturity point are expected to be further developed within the upcoming GI-AI4H. Those documents and activities that did not mature sufficiently will be archived.
