Executive Summary of Study Group 12 meeting (Geneva, 7-16 June)

 

​​General

The meeting was attended by 108 delegates from 35 countries. It received 52 Contributions and handled 153 TDs. The meeting reviewed 24 incoming Liaison statements and adopted 24 outgoing Liaison statements. 

Ten Recommendations were consented, and one informative text was agreed.

A webinar (announcement | recording | slides) was held on 16 June 2016 following the closing plenary, summarizing key meeting results.

Q1/12

  • Reviewed and revised SG12 mandate and lead study group roles, as well as the Q1/12 text for the next study period
  • Reviewed incoming Liaison statements related to the SG12 work programme, and drafted replies as appropriate
  • Reviewed SG12 activities related to ITU’s Bridging the Standardization Gap (BSG) programme

Q2/12

  • Consented the following Recommendations:
    •  P.10/G.100 (2016) Amd.5 “Vocabulary for performance and quality of service”: new definitions for Quality of Experience (QoE), QoE Factors and QoE Assessment
    • Revised Recommendation ITU-T P.800.1 “Mean Opinion Score (MOS) terminology”
    • Revised Recommendation ITU-T P.800.2 “Mean Opinion Score (MOS) interpretation and reporting”
  • Modified titles of the P.800-P.899 and P.1500-P.1599 subseries of Recommendations:
    • P.800-P.899: Methods for objective and subjective assessment of speech and video quality
    • P.1500-P.1599: Methods for objective and subjective assessment of quality of services other than voice speech and video services
  • Took over responsibility for the maintenance of the Software Tool Library (STL) and associated Recommendations ITU-T G.191 and G.192 from ITU-T SG16
  • Reviewed and revised Q2/12 text for the next study period

  • Reviewed and updated its work programme

Quality of service development group (QSDG)

  • Reviewed and updated its work programme and ToR for the next study period

Results from working parties

Wo​rking Party 1/12

  • Consented the following Recommendations:
    • Revised Recommendation ITU-T P.381 “Technical requirements and test methods for the universal wired headset or headphone interface of digital mobile terminals”
    • New Recommendation ITU-T P.382 (ex. P.MMIC) “Technical requirements and test methods for multi-microphone wired headset or headphone interfaces of digital wireless terminals”
    • New Recommendation ITU-T P.1305 (ex. P.DTM) “Effect of delays on telemeeting quality”
  • Established new work item on a “multi-dimensional subjective test methodology to analyze transmitted speech in a telephone conversation” or P.CQS
  • Reviewed and revised question texts for the next study period

Working Party 2/12

  • Established new work item on a “no-reference, single ended prediction of quality dimensions” or P.SAMD
  • Selected models for P.NATS Phase 1 based on a set of statistical validation criteria. The different winning groups will now merge their models to target a timely standardization of P.NATS Phase 1 by Q4/2016
  • Started up P.NATS Phase 2, which will be run jointly as a collaboration with the VQEG AVHD project, under the umbrella of the Inter-sector Rapporteur Group – Audiovisual Quality Assessment (IRG-AVQA)
  • Reviewed and revised question texts for the next study period

Working Party 3/12

  • Consented the following Recommendations:
    • Revised Recommendation ITU-T G.1011 “Reference guide to quality of experience assessment methodologies”
    • New Recommendation ITU-T G.1022 (ex. G.102y) “Buffer Models for Media Streams on TCP Transport”
    • Revised Recommendation ITU-T G.1050 “Network model for evaluating multimedia transmission performance over Internet Protocol”
    • Revised Recommendation ITU-T Y.1540 “Internet protocol data communication service – IP packet transfer and availability performance parameters”
  • Agreed the following texts:
    • New Implementer’s Guide for Recommendation ITU-T G.1028
  • Established new work item on a “CEM Index for services in operators’ network used in high volume” or E.CEMI
  • Established new work item on “IPTV monitoring parameters” or G.IPTV-MP
  • Reviewed and revised question texts for the next study period
