Issue N°7, 18 October 2014: Council 2014 concludes its business in Busan
The final meeting of the 2014 session of the Council took place in Busan, Republic of Korea, on 18 October, ahead of the 19th Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-14), which opens its doors on Monday (20 October). Aboubakar Zourmba, Deputy Director-General of Cameroon's Telecommunications Regulatory Agency, and Chairman of the 2014 session of the Council, and ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun I. Touré welcomed participants. Both men pointed to a very busy and productive period since the Council met in May this year. Dr Touré updated the Council on the Union's activities. Issue N°6, 13-15 May 2014: All signs point to Busan as Council 2014 wraps up
Council 2014 ended on 15 May after completing a heavy workload ahead of the quadrennial Plenipotentiary Conference scheduled to be held in the Republic of Korea from 20 October to 7 November 2014. The Council session was attended by 421 participants from 48 countries representing ITU's total membership of 193 Member States who were joined by 40 Member State observers, five Sector Member observers and representatives of three regional telecommunication organizations...


Issue N°5, 12 May 2014: Looking forward to PP-14 in Busan...
The Council was updated on the status of preparations for the Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-14) set to take place in Busan (Republic of Korea) from 20 October to 7 November 2014. ITU Strategic Planning and Membership Department Chief Doreen Bogdan-Martin recalled that the host country agreement was signed in Seoul by ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun I. Touré and the Republic of Korea's Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Choi Mun-Kee on 21 October 2013...


Issue N°4, 9 May 2014: Standing Committee on Administration and Management moving full steam ahead
Discussions got under way on Friday in the ADM Committee to start examining the report of the Council Working Group on the Strategic Plan and Financial Plan for 2016-2019 (as reported in Issue No. 2 of Council 2014 Highlights on 7 May). Mario Canazza, the group's Chairman presented its report summarizing the results of its four meetings, held between June 2013 and May 2014...


Issue N°3, 8 May 2014: ITU Secretary-General calls for greater international cooperation to enhance cybersecurity
ITU Secretary-General Dr Hamadoun I.Touré has called for greater international cooperation to combat growing threats to cybersecurity and to the safety of children online. Speaking at the Thursday morning plenary (8 May), the Secretary-General appealed to Member States to set aside any differences they may have on cybersecurity issues and to work more closely together through ITU and other international organizations as well as amongst themselves to address these challenges...


Issue N°2, 7 May 2014: ITU’s operational plans for 2015-2018 sail through
The Council considered and unanimously approved the Union’s four-year rolling operational plans for 2015-2018, as detailed below. All four plans follow the structure provided in the ITU Strategic Plan for 2012-2015 (Resolution 71, Rev. Guadalajara, 2010). They provide simple, but comprehensive instruments for implementing and linking vision, mission, strategic goals, objectives, outputs and priorities across the Union.
