Public Consultation on the proposed draft text of the ITU 2016-2019 Strategic Plan

Call for Contributions to the public consultation on the draft text of the ITU Strategic Plan for 2016-2019

Since the launching of the process by the ITU Council Working Group for the Elaboration of the draft Strategic Plan and the Draft Financial Plan for the Union for 2016-2019 (CWG SP-FP) in June, 2013, the ITU is working to develop a draft strategic plan that is inclusive to all stakeholders' opinions, ideas and proposals.

The new ITU Strategic Plan for 2016-2019 will underline ITU's priorities and efforts in the post-2015 era, and will be approved at its next Plenipotentiary Conference, to be held in Busan, Korea, in October 2014.

To this end, the Council Working Group held a Public Consultation from December 16, 2013 to February 11, 2014, resulting in input documents from regional organizations, administrations, civil society, international/national associations, private sector organizations and individuals. These inputs on the proposed strategic framework, glossary, and structure of the draft strategic plan were then presented and discussed among ITU membership at the third meeting of the CWG SP-FP in Geneva, the 27th and 28th February 2014.

The public consultation was a great opportunity for all voices to be heard, and be considered in the elaboration of the draft text of the ITU 2016-2019 Strategic Plan. Due to the positive contributions that have resulted from the previous Public Consultation, CWG SP-FP decided to conduct a Public Consultation on the draft text of the ITU 2016-2019 Strategic Plan prior to its next CWG meeting on May 5, 2014.

We strongly believe in the continuous engagement of all stakeholders in the preparation of the 2016-2019 Strategic Plan. We encourage all interested parties to take part in this second call for contributions by providing inputs via our online platform or by submitting written contributions directly by email to strategic-planning@itu.int by April 25, 2014.

I look forward to receiving additional opinions and ideas for the proposed draft text of the strategic plan, and will ensure that they are heard and considered in the next Council Working Group meeting in May 5, 2014.

Mario R. Canazza
Chairman of the ITU Council Working Group for the Elaboration of the Draft Strategic Plan and the draft Financial Plan for the Union for 2016-2019
