Each Sector of ITU has a number of study groups related to the sector’s specific field. ICT stakeholders from around the world come together to present ideas, share best practices, exchange views and achieve consensus on appropriate strategies to address telecommunication/ICT priorities.

The Radiocommunication Assembly (RA), World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA), and World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC) - and before 1993, the Plenary Assemblies of the International Consultative Committees (CCIs) - provide overall direction of the study groups of their respective Sectors. At the beginning of each Study Period, they establish or disband study groups according to need, approve a list of subjects to be studied and refer them to specific study groups, and elect the chairs and vice-chairs for the groups. The main outputs of study groups are technical standards or guidelines (called Recommendations), reports, and handbooks and manuals.

Click on the boxes below to explore the interactive historical list of study groups for each sector. Information includes the study group name, designation, chairman, and study period.
The lists are based on the information published in the proceedings of the CCI Plenary Assemblies, RA, WTSA and WTDC. Changes of chairman or study group structure that occurred between assemblies/conferences may not be reflected in the lists. If you wish to suggest a correction or addition to the lists, please contact the Library and Archives Service (library@itu.int).
