Radiocommunication Assembly (RA) 2019: Closing ceremony

Mr Chairman,
Excellencies,
Mr Maniewicz, Director of BR,
Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen.
This has been a very intense week. But after long days of discussions, you have achieved results that will put the ITU Radiocommunication Sector on a sound footing for the coming study period.
The ITU-R Study Groups bring together experts from manufacturers, service providers, regulators, academia and other international organizations to develop technical Recommendations, Reports and Handbooks for radiocommunication systems.
During this Radio Assembly you have refined and clarified the working methods of the Study Groups and the role of CPM. You have revised existing ITU-R Resolutions and Recommendations, and considered new ones of high importance for the development of global telecommunications and information technology. Let me congratulate you on your participation and your contributions.
This Assembly also elected the Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of the Study Groups. Let me congratulate them on their election and wish them every success in their new role.
I also extend my congratulations to Egypt for the successful organization of this Assembly. I can think of no better way to start WRC-19! I thank the Administration, the Local Authority and their entire team engaged with RA-2019. I also wish to thank the ITU staff present in Sharm-el-Sheikh and those who have stayed on in Geneva.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Next Monday starts WRC‑19, a conference set to play a central role in the digital economy. And this assembly has led the way.
For those of you remaining in Sharm-El-Sheikh for WRC‑19, a major task awaits you and I look forward to working with you over the next 4 weeks. And for those of you returning to your home countries, I wish you a safe return.
