Opening Press Conference of World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT-12)

Welcome to Dubai and welcome to World Conference on International Telecommunications. We are very honoured to be host of this important conference which will discuss the critical and pivotal issues related to the ICT sector.
The conference has gained significant media attention for the past year or so. The whole world is awaiting to see the outcome of this conference.
This landmark conference will review the current International Telecommunications Regulations (ITRs), which serve as the binding global treaty designed to facilitate global interconnection and interoperability of information and communication services, as well as ensuring their efficiency and widespread public usefulness and availability.
The treaty sets out general principles for ensuring the free flow of information around the world and promoting affordable and equitable access for all.
As a chairman of the conference I will work together with all parties to develop consensus with the spirit of compromise and mutual respect and recognition.
I hope that we can work effectively in these two weeks to meet the expectations of the future of ICT sector.
