YWCA Rwanda in partnership with World YWCA celebrated the International Girls in ICT Day
The International Girls in ICT day event was conducted on 28th April 2016 in Bugesera District at Groupe Scolaire (GS) Nyamata Catholique. The event brought together over 150 girls who came from the three YWCA leadership clubs namely Ntwali, talented as well as honest clubs. Prior to the event were the interclub competitions under the theme "ICT for all, Expanding Horizons, changing attitudes" from which five girls six girls were selected to represent their clubs at the school level competitions. During the event, all the girls with the bet poems received presents that ranged from school bags to note books and sweets in way of recognizing their initiatives of drafting very inspiring and educative poems.
Following the poem completion, was the open discussion with the girls to help them get more insights about the value of ICT.A team from YWCA Rwanda gave a brief background of the girl's in ICT event and encouraged all the girls and to always opts for these courses as they have the same opportunity like their counterparts the boys. The director of studies from GS Nyamata also encouraged the girls to always take maximum attention when selecting the courses to take at the university not to only opt for the so cold traditional courses for the girls like teaching, nursing and she pledged her continuous career guidance support all the girls. By the end of the event, the girls were all existed about taking the science courses and they pledged to put in more effort in order to be offered these courses.
