On the auspicious occasion of International Girls in ICT Day, Open Knowledge Foundation Nepal and Wikimedia Nepal organized wiki editathon for girls in Sumway International Business School on 25th April 2013, 25 girls were participated and did some wiki edit things. To help inspire girls to adopt technology in their career and create a global environment that empowers and encourages girls and young women to consider careers in the growing field of ICT, International Girls' in ICT Day is an initiative backed by International TeleCommunitcation Union (ITU) Member States in Plenipotentiary Resolution 70 (Guadalajara, 2010). International Girls in ICT Day is celebrated on the 4th Thursday in April every year. First time it was celebrated in 2010.

Saroj Dhakal from Wikimedia Nepal started program with an introduction of wikimedia nepal, wikipedia, global perspective and local status. Krish Dulal, top contributer on Nepali Wikipedia, shared what make him motivated to doing so, Shrijana and Naviya from Wikiwomen Initiative of Nepal presented about the wikiwomen and how this works and finally Prakash Neupane from Open Knowledge Foundation Nepal presented the story of Kat Barybrooke how open data make her smile and explained what is open knowledge foundation network, open data, open definition, projects and the way for engaging. Prakash also explained the idea behind the Girls In ICT Day, and trying to motivate them to make the career in the global trends of ICT.

After these presentation, the work started, girls with machine started to register for new accounts, oops, the IP restricted only for 6 new accounts and rest had done through guest session. They simply started with what they want to read, if it was there then started to edit and if not then started to make new one... few have successfully make some new articles and few edit existing one. We saw an excitement in their face, seems they were happy to make this and commitment to doing this in coming days too.

The event was conducted for 3.5 hours . In these hours, the girls who were not ever heard about open data and open content are convinced to these term and ready for contribute. So this is the good initiation and experience to enroll girls in ict, and this movement will be continue....
