Generation Connect – Europe Youth Envoys (GC-EUR) – Cohort of 2022
In line with the ITU Youth Strategy and within the framework of the “Generation Connect” global initiative, European Youth were called upon to contribute to the preparatory process for the 2022 World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), in particular the Regional Preparatory Meeting (RPM) for Europe, through the establishment of the 2022 cohort of Generation Connect – Europe Youth Envoys (GC-EUR).

Youth Declaration
A Youth Declaration presented at the RPM, was prepared by the 2022 cohort of GC Europe Youth Envoys. Through this Declaration, the Europe Youth Envoys shared their views on the challenges and opportunities related to digital development. The Declaration recognizes the essential role of meaningful connectivity for digital development and calls for specific actions in Europe in the areas of capacity development, policy and regulation, cybersecurity, environment, and digital inclusion. Considering the declaration, RPM decided to incorporate several proposals in the new set of regional priorities for Europe ensuring meaningful engagement of Youth in the preparatory process towards the 2022 WTDC.
The 2022 cohort of Generation Connect Europe Youth Envoys consisted of 38 young people aged between 18 and 25, coming from 21 different European countries. This group was first established in 2020 within the framework of the Generation Connect initiative with 24 members and, after running an exhaustive recruitment process, 14 new members joined the group. The aim of the 2022 cohort of the Generation Connect Europe Youth Envoys was to ensure meaningful youth engagement and participation to create, advocate and contribute to the policy making processes shaping the digital future. The Youth Envoys were also very involved in the co-creation and consultation process towards the Generation Connect Global Youth Summit, held on 2-4 June 2022, back-to-back with WTDC.
