In Papua New Guinea, Girls in ICT Day events end on a high note
The first-ever Girls in ICT Day events in West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea, ended on a high note.
On the last day of #GirlsInICTechWeek, an information and communication technology (ICT) seminar took place with over 90 participants from the various high schools, the National Information Communication Technology Authority (NICTA), West New Britain Women in ICT, and other organizations.
The students of Kimbe International School presented their ICT projects — apps using MS Excel Macros and websites using Dreamweaver. Miss Crystal Kewe, guest speaker and facilitator, delivered encouraging messages.
Pauline Panauwe, ICT Manager of the West New Britain Provincial Health Authority shared her experience of working in a demanding job in a male-dominated environment while juggling the challenges of being a mother and wife.

Ruth Jordan-som, Data Manager, New Britain Palm Oil Limited Research Station, spoke of her work as an agriculturist. She implements ICT solutions in data management to better understand the growth cycle of oil palm.
Solomon Sar, Spatial Data Specialist and Entomologist, shared exciting insights on the use of drones for oil palm agriculture.
Four girls received tuition funding plus education expenses for their ICT course duration through the NICTA Girls in ICT Scholarship.
It was an intense, information-rich morning.
The day ended with a ‘drone’ shot of participants doing a GICT formation!
