Beyond 2030: ITU Journal shares new research

By ITU News

The latest issue of the ITU Journal on Future and Evolving Technologies features research on the digital continuum and next-generation networks, networking beyond 2030, and autonomous network management and control for 6G time-critical applications.

The ITU Journal – free of charge to both readers and contributors – offers comprehensive coverage of communications and networking paradigms. The online journal welcomes research submissions on all relevant topics, all year long.

Earlier issues in 2022 have covered a range of topics, from holographic communications, digital twins, and edge computing to the growing research challenges in wireless communications associated with extended reality.

The year’s journal editions have also addressed artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning solutions for 5G and future networks, the emerging trends and applications expected to shape future networks, and vehicular network innovations to support smart and safe mobility.

Upcoming issues of the ITU Journal in 2023 will address:

  • Intelligent surfaces and their applications for wide-scale deployment
  • Innovative network solutions for future services
  • AI for accessibility
  • AI-driven security in 5G and beyond
  • Network virtualization, slicing, orchestration, fog, and edge platforms for 5G and 6G wireless systems
  • Communications, networking, and computing in the metaverse
  • Intelligent technologies for networking and distributed systems
Opportunities for research communities

Along with research articles, the online publication includes recorded webinar discussions with internationally renowned researchers.

Academics and researchers can also contribute to ITU’s work through two other key avenues: ITU Academia membership and ITU Kaleidoscope conferences.

Academia members can take part in ITU expert groups responsible for radiocommunication, standardization, and development, thereby helping to strengthen ITU’s work as well as boosting the impact of their own research.

Annual Kaleidoscope conferences highlight research into key strategic topics for ITU standardization processes. The 2022 conference in Accra, Ghana, 7-9 December, featured expert insights on innovations needed to create and deepen the metaverse.
