In the last decade, digital technologies have proliferated to include nascent new tech sectors such as artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, cloud computing, Internet of Things, machine learning, robotics, nanotechnology, mobile applications, 3D printing, and more. The rise of these technologies has created a skills gap in many countries around the world. Chinese government officials believe 7.5 million ICT professionals will be needed in 2020.

The Digital Skills Toolkit is a helpful guide to policy-makers and chief influencers based the practical hands-on experiences of stakeholders who have built a framework to address this skills gap. Women in rural Bangladesh, for instance, are learning mobile app development and web design. In Viet Nam, farmers are learning to use the Internet and building productivity tools and agricultural apps. By teaching digital skills to those in areas where accessibility is a challenge, the digital future will be brighter and better for everyone.
