Across the world, electrical and electronic devices are being bought but also discarded in record numbers, and this is a problem in developing countries that lack the techniques and infrastructure to safeguard the environment from the impact of hazardous waste. Handbook for the Development of a Policy Framework on ICT/e-Waste is a guide for policy-makers and government leaders, especially in developing countries, to help them devise effective e-Waste strategies. Centred on the three key areas of sustainable development, green ICT and the circular economy where valuable resources are constantly reused, it covers the importance of e-Waste regulations and describes how to design and implement an efficient waste-management system. It then reviews some of the most comprehensive standards for the recycling of electrical waste, and then provides a set of recommendations for the key points to be included in a regulatory framework for managing ICT waste.
