Based on the initiatives of the United 4 Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC), City Science Application Framework details a four-step methodology for cities to solve their most pressing challenges. Using empirical evidence, the framework shows how to assess, prioritize and boost city applications. Beginning with an introduction to urbanization, the report provides an overview of the city science application framework while listing the ways in which it can be used to solve the problems of urbanization. The report goes on to list the stakeholders involved in city applications and shows how they can work together while implementing the framework. It also lists city science enablers — policy tools that allow a city to boost its science application framework. These include international standards and guidance, R&D programmes, laws and regulations, and financial incentives. The report contains a series of case studies to further enlighten city science.
