AFR2: Implementation and expansion of broadband infrastructures, connectivity and emerging technologies

As part of technical assistance and capacity building to various countries in Africa, trainings under the Policy and Regulation Initiative for Digital Africa (PRIDA) were delivered on spectrum management, aeronautical and maritime communication services, spectrum monitoring, satellite broadband training and Radio Local Area Network regulations, business plan for broadband network and the spectrum aspect of IoT.

Data collection for the ‘Benchmarking of ICTs in Central Africa’ project was completed across all beneficiary countries: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda and São Tomé and Príncipe. The data will inform recommendations and capacity building programs tailored to the countries’ needs and priorities.

A market assessment on ICT affordability was undertaken in Zambia to ensure effective competition and transparent, cost-based and non-discriminatory tariffs.

Policy guidance on last mile connectivity, big data application and usage and green data centres was developed as part of the digital transformation project with the government of Uganda.
