Key Insights
The Global Symposium for Regulators 2023 (GSR-23) was held in Sharm El-Sheik, Egypt, under the theme “Regulation for a sustainable digital future” and featured thematic sessions bringing together regulators, policymakers and other digital stakeholders from around the world and providing a global platform for knowledge exchange. The GSR-23 Best Practice Guidelines define regulatory and economic incentives to stimulate the deployment of digital infrastructure for all people everywhere.
The ITU Policy and Economic Colloquium (IPEC-23) took place in San José, Costa Rica and included the Regional Economic Dialogue (RED-AMS) for the Americas, which focused on opportunities and challenges to achieve digital transformation in the Americas Region.
The Digital Regulation Network (DRN), launched at the Regional Regulatory Associations Meeting during GSR-23, will benefit Regional Regulatory Associations through thought leadership on emerging issues and regulatory needs in the digital transformation, institutional capacity development and twinning programmes, and promoting cross-sectoral regulatory approaches for digital transformation. The first Digital Regulation Network Initiative Board Meeting was held in October.
Collaborative regulation country reviews for Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Kenya, Mexico, and Nigeria were released. Further work is planned for 2024.
The Global Digital Regulatory Outlook 2023 benchmarks regulatory progress across 193 countries worldwide and includes a unified framework for assessing the state of readiness of national policy, legal and governance frameworks for digital transformation, while supporting national ICT regulators in evidence-based decision-making. The 2023 edition of the G5 Benchmark shows the latest data and developments in regulatory preparedness for digital transformation.
