Key Insights

ITU-D projects are a key vehicle to advance the implementation of BDT’s mandate as outlined in the Kigali Action Plan and the provision of technical assistance to ITU Member States.

In 2023 alone, ITU-D signed 21 new agreements for new projects, project extensions as well as voluntary contributions for a value close to CHF 18.7 million in areas such as digital skills, digital policy and regulation and digital government amongst others. These projects were signed in partnership with other organizations, such as national government agencies, bilateral cooperation entities, not-for-profit institutions, private sector, and agencies from the UN-wide system.

BDT also continued to reinforce project management practices including project monitoring and the oversight and management of project portfolio. These included the launch of a new dashboard on project implementation to allow ITU Member States to have more detailed information on projects.
