1. Clear description of the referenced document:
Name: IEEE 1588-2019
Title: Standard for Synchronizing Clocks - This standard defines a protocol to synchronize independent clocks running on separate nodes of a distributed measurement and control system to a high degree of accuracy and precision. The protocol is independent of the networking technology, and the system topology is self-configuring.
2. Status of approval:
Approved as standard.
3. Justification for the specific reference:
The Precision Time Protocol (PTP) is defined by IEEE 1588. The clock specified by this Recommendation implements time synchronization interfaces that can carry PTP messages according to profiles that are specified in other Recommendations. As a result, some requirements require compliance to the IEEE 1588, either the 2008 or 2019 version depending on the PTP profile version that is supported.
