Summary: JSON is a lightweight data interchange format which has a much lower overhead than XML. It is a human-readable textual format for transmitting data objects in attribute-value pairs. JSON is supported by the major programming frameworks. Allowing ASN.1 values to be represented in JSON makes it possible to utilize an increasing amount of software for manipulating JSON objects.
