Summary: To understand GHG emissions and the effects of using ICT in Industrial Parks in relation to energy saving measures, deployment of different technologies and different types of energy supply, it is necessary to establish detailed GHG emissions accounting guidance. In particular, the data collection and the combination of data for various sources of electricity supply needs further guidance. Traditionally, operators are used to have access to information regarding their electricity consumption when supplied from the grid. However, use of own generation of electricity, such as solar, wind and (decreasingly) diesel power, makes the data collection and assessment of GHG emissions more complicated. Thus, this work item will provide guidance on how to consider this in assessments GHG emissions associated with the use of ICT GHG emissions in Industrial Parks. Recommendation ITU-T L.1410 provides the general principles on assessing the environmental impact of ICT. Recommendation ITU-T L.1420 provides the methodologies for assessing power consumption and GHG emissions of ICT in area or organization. This work item is building on those and provide the detailed assessment guidance for the use of ICT in Industrial Parks. With commitments of reaching Net Zero from different countries at different points in time, in the field of ICT, ITU should support the development of GHG emission reduction strategies for Industrial Parks by providing methodologies for their accounting. Such methodologies would provide the means for accounting the progress of Industrial ParksĀ“ GHG emission reduction due to ICT in different regions and for evaluating the effect of energy-savings and GHG emission reduction technologies.
