Summary: The main purpose of the Recommendation is to provide general principles to evaluate the carbon footprint of smartphones, and improve the accuracy, consistency and transparency of carbon footprint assessment of this kind of products. The Recommendation establishes a guideline for the carbon footprint assessment of smartphones, which is supposed to help stakeholders comprehensively understand their carbon emissions and to help identify key emission reduction strategies during the overall life cycle. The work will consider relevant existing frameworks such as L.1400-series of recommendations (in particular L.1410), ISO 14067, the GHG protocol ICT supplement and the Ecorating initiative on smartphones.
