Summary: The French Arcep/ADEME Technical Expert Committee on measuring the environmental impact of digital technologies has published in April 2023 its first report, entitled “Assessment of the environmental impact of the ICT sector: Methodological gap analysis”, highlighting the methodological gaps between ICT sector impact assessment studies, testing the implementation of L.1450 Recommendation and recommending whenever possible on areas of developments. to the worktime will reuse the outcome and lessons learnt from this report to revise the provisions of Recommendation ITU-T L.1450. Main pre-identified gaps/clarifications to be addressed through this proposal for revision include general gaps/clarifications which deal with the LCA assessment approach of the environmental impact of the ICT sector while other gaps/clarifications are related to specific considerations such as emerging technologies (IoT, AI/ML, Satellite etc.).
