Summary: In smart cities, various intelligent services (safety, control, and monitoring) based on IoT are possible. Services for safety monitoring and management include safety management of citizen parks and residential areas, urban river flood monitoring, and safety management of construction sites. Services for transportation and urban planning include real-time traffic monitoring, smart parking management, and traffic flow optimization. Services for smart energy management include real-time power use, energy efficiency improvement, and equipment condition monitoring. Services for environmental monitoring include air quality monitoring, recycling collection and processing, and environmental pollution detection. Services for this environmental monitoring include safety monitoring services for underground facilities (gas pipes, etc.) such as urban and industrial facilities, and safety monitoring services based on complex processing of images and sensor data inside and around the factory. To provide the above intelligent IoT services in smart cities, by proactively processing large amounts of data at the edge, bandwidth must be effectively utilized and network bottlenecks must be minimized. Smart city service functions should be improved by integrating data generated from various sensors and IoT devices with image/video data. In addition, personal information protection should be strengthened through security technologies such as data encryption, access control, and authentication, and strategies should be established to reduce operation and construction costs and secure infrastructure efficiency and sustainable urban development by establishing self-communication networks. Through this, it is possible to create new business models through intelligent services in smart cities.
