Constitution and Convention of the ITU (Geneva, 1992), Minneapolis, 1998

  • The Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has ratified the instruments amending the above-mentioned Constitution and Convention.

  • The instrument of ratification was deposited with the Secretary-General on 4 January 2002.

  • The Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein has ratified the instruments amending the above-mentioned Constitution and Convention.

  • The instrument of ratification was deposited with the Secretary-General on 5 February 2002.

  • The Government of New Zealand has ratified the instruments amending the above-mentioned Constitution and Convention.

  • The instrument of ratification was deposited with the Secretary-General on 18 January 2002.

  • The Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has approved the instruments amending the above-mentioned Constitution and Convention.

  • The instrument of approval was deposited with the Secretary-General on 30 January 2002.

Changes

  • The Ministry of Commerce and Technology of Jamaica has changed its name and is now called Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Technology.

  • The Ministry of Information, Transport and Communications of Kenya has changed its name and is now called Ministry of Transport and Communications.

  • The Instituto das Comunicações de Portugal has changed its name and is now called ICP—Autoridade Nacional de Comunicações.

  • The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Singapore has changed its name and is now called Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.

  • Antelecom N.V., which participates in the work of the Telecommunication Standardization and Telecommunication Development Sectors, has changed its name. The new denomination is United Telecommunication Services (UTS).

  • Element 14, Inc., which participates in the work of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector, has changed its name. The new denomination is Broadcom UK Ltd.

  • GlobeSpan, Inc., which participates in the work of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector, has changed its name. The new denomination is GlobespanVirata, Inc.

  • J-Phone Communications Co., Ltd, which participates in the work of the Radiocommunication and Telecommunication Standardization Sectors, has changed its name. The new denomination is J-PHONE Co., Ltd.

  • Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications (LMGT), which participates in the work of the Radiocommunication, Telecommunication Standardization and Telecommunication Development Sectors, has changed its name. The new denomination is Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMC).

  • Mannesmann Mobilfunk GmbH, which participates in the work of the Radiocommunication and Telecommunication Standardization Sectors, has changed its name. The new denomination is Vodafone D2 GmbH.

  • Misrfone Telephone Co. (Click), which participates in the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector, has changed its name. The new denomination is Vodafone Egypt Telecommunications S.A.E.

  • Netergy Networks, Inc., which participates in the work of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector, has changed its name. The new denomination is 8x8, Inc.

  • Public Enterprise PTT Bosnia and Herzegovina, which participates in the work of the Telecommunication Standardization and Telecommunication Development Sectors, has changed its name. The new denomination is BH Telecom.

  • Tokai University Medical Research Institute, which participates in the work of the Telecommunication Development Sector, has changed its name. The new denomination is Tokai University Institute of Medical Sciences.

  • TyCom (US) Inc.,> which participates in the work of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector, has changed its name. The new denomination is Tyco Telecommunications (US) Inc.

Radiocommunication Sector

  • mm02 plc (Uxbridge, Middlesex, United Kingdom), SystemWare, Inc. (Thousand Oaks, CA), Tele-Com Lesotho (Pty) Ltd (Maseru), Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) (New Delhi) and Türk Telekomünikasyon A.S. (Ankara) have been admitted to take part in the work of this Sector.

Telecommunication Standardization Sector

  • Orckit Communications Ltd (Tel-Aviv), Tele-Com Lesotho (Pty) Ltd (Maseru),Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) (New Delhi), The Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated (Tokyo), Türk Telekomünikasyon A.S. (Ankara) and Zarlink Semiconductor (Ottawa) have been admitted to take part in the work of this Sector.

Telecommunication Development Sector

  • CompassRose International, Inc. New Associates

Telecommunication Standardization Sector

  • Data Connection Ltd (Enfield, Middlesex, United Kingdom), OFS Fitel (Whippany, NJ) and Wavium AB (Stockholm) have been admitted to take part in the work of Study Group 15.

  • Nominum Ltd (Bothwell, Scotland) has been admitted to take part in the work of Study Group 2.

  • OSS Nokalva, Inc. (Somerset, NJ) has been admitted to take part in the work of Study Group 17.

Structural Changes

Gabonese Republic

  • On the Government’s proposal and pursuant to legislation enacted by the National Assembly, Gabon’s telecommunication sector has undergone the following major structural changes: establishment of the Telecommunication Regulatory Agency (Agence de Régulation des Télécommunications) (ARTEL) and division of the Office des Postes et des Télécommunications (OPT), the former operator, into several entities including GABON TELECOM, a limited liability company with public financial participation, now the incumbent telecommunication operator.

Jamaica

  • The Spectrum Management Authority has been given the responsibility for regulating the Radio Frequency Spectrum and has assumed the responsibilities formerly held by the Post and Telecommunications Department. The Office of Utilities Regulation is still the Regulator.

Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

  • The Government has decided to transfer the State Membership (Administration) status in the ITU to the Ministry of Post and Communications, instead of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.

Republic of Senegal

  • The telecommunication sector has undergone a major reform by Law 2001–15 of 27 December 2001. A strategic component of this reform is the creation of the Telecommunication Regulatory Agency (Agence de Régulation des Télécommunications) (ART), which will henceforth represent the State in ITU’s various activities.

Republic of Zimbabwe

  • The Postal and Telecommunications Corporation has been unbundled into three separate companies, Tel One for fixed network services, Net One for mobile services and Zimpost for postal services. The Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) is a new organization and is different from the Postal and Telecommunications Corporation. POTRAZ is the Regulatory Authority, which was formed with the promulgation of the Postal and Telecommunications Act.
