The project in Viet Nam involves
setting up four MCTs, two in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak and two
in northern Ha Bac province. These two provinces were selected for their
distinct geographical conditions and income levels. Services provided by
MCTs include, in addition to public information and business support,
educational services and telehealth services. The project is supported by ITU
and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).

Four teams conversant with applications focusing on
telehealth, small and medium-sized enterprises, agriculture and rural
development have been established by the relevant ministries to collaborate on
the MCT project that complements another project that Viet Nam has undertaken to
reduce the gap between rural and urban areas.

This is the Telecommunications and Post Cultural Points for
Communes (TPCPC) programme, which began in 1998 and aims to bring access to
basic telecommunications and postal services to every commune. The project
plans to increase the total of communes served to 9000 by 2005. It is planned to
introduce Internet services on a larger scale and to create websites for
farmers.
