Carla Valverde is Manager of Economic Analysis and Telecommunications Markets at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications of Costa Rica. In her current role, she leads the team in charge of research in economics, statistics, and finance. She has more than 10 years of experience in the ICT/Telecommunications sector, during which she has developed research on gender digital divide, children online, e-waste, and cultural practices through ICTs, among other topics. She has also worked on the definition and evaluation of public policies in telecommunications. She collaborates as an advisor to her superiors on topics of her expertise addressed in international organizations such as the Regional Technical Telecommunications Commission (COMTELCA), the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) and the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). Ms. Valverde has worked in the public, private and academic sectors, and has been an Economics Professor in several universities. She holds a BSc. in Economics from the University of Costa Rica, and a MSc. in Development Studies, with a major in Development Economics and a minor in Quantitative Analysis of Policies, from the Institute of Social Studies, The Netherlands.
