Miss Maipelo Mahalelo is a Senior Business Development Officer at Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA). Miss Mahalelo has a Masters Degree in Economics obtained from the University of Botswana. She is responsible for Economic Regulation of the ICT sector, which includes among other duties: collecting, collating, and analysing data from licensed operators. Part of her duties also involve balancing the ICT market ecosystem to accommodate the needs of the Policy maker, the Regulator, the operators as well as the end customers. Miss Mahalelo has contributed to the transformation of the ICT market in Botswana, notably in design of the ICT Pricing Framework that was implemented in 2017. She has also played a key role in formulation of Home and Away Roaming Framework in SADC, an initiative whose objective is to make regional roaming affordable. She is keen in ICT market research, trend analysis and providing compelling views on future market outlook. She was instrumental in design of metrics used by the Authority to gauge performance of mobile money market in Botswana, a market that has flourished resulting in financial inclusion of individuals who are unbanked.
