Muhammad Arif Sargana is professional economist and working as Director (Economic Affairs) at the Pakistan Telecom Authority (PTA) since 2003. His major areas of expertise include regulatory reforms, ICT data collection & economic analysis, mobile banking, ecommerce, ICT taxes, SDGs, coordination with economic ministries and ICT public policy.

He is a focal person at the Pakistan telecom regulator to gather ICT statistics from all operators & other agencies in Pakistan and disseminate the same with ITU and other national and international agencies. He is a lead member of joint committee by Pakistan telecom regulator and State Bank of Pakistan to monitor and introduce innovations in mobile payments in Pakistan and also looks after the Ecommerce issues at telecom regulator. He authors PTA annual reports which provide status of ICT developments in Pakistan. He also worked for the Competition Commission of Pakistan, the World Bank Pakistan Resident Mission, the United Nations and other development institutions for various assignments.

Mr Sargana holds three post-graduate degrees in economics of development from Pakistan and from the Institute of Social Studies in The Netherlands.
