ITU and USTTI jointly hosted a 2-day webinar on 15 and 16 December titled Building Disaster Resilience through Emergency Telecommunications. Sessions on day 1 included welcome remarks from Director BDT, a presentation from EET that focused on ITU’s global guidelines for the development of National Emergency Telecommunication Plans, as well as an overview of the Common Alerting Protocol and Cellular Broadcast. Sessions on day 2 included a regulatory perspective from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission, and an examination of emergency management best practices and real-world case studies from AT&T and Inmarsat. Finally, a senior-level panel discussion analysed the importance of network capacity and resilient infrastructure in times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
