Description of the event
|
| The girls in ICT day an initiative started by the ITU was first celebrated in Somalia in 2018, this will be the 3rd year Somalia celebrates girls in ICT day and our aim this year is to reach as much girls as possible. This year we worked on encouraging girls to pursue careers in ICT and show them the innovation, commitment and diversity they can bring to ICT sectors, in this regard we hosted six online workshops including:Basic ICT knowledge, Basic programming, Graphics, Web Development, App development and Entrepreneurship using ICT tools. the 18th of April marked the start of the Girls In ICT DAY 2020 celebration in the Federal Republic of Somalia. With Six online workshops on relevant and important topics in ICT organized by the national communications authority and ministry of posts, telecommunications and technology, and around 60 girls joined the workshops. We also organized a live online webinar to celebrate the Girls in ICT day 2020, we had 68 people register to our online seminar, participation from government, private sector and educational institutes, we had four presentation on important topics such as the challenges females face in studying and working in the ICT sector, the seminar also highlighted employment programs and opportunities that are available in Mogadishu as well as stressing the importance of encouraging girls and women to achieve their full potential. All the training recording and material will be available online as a resources for anyone interested in learning any of the topics covered in the workshops.
