Executiva @ Women in Technology Conference

Why do we have so few women in technology careers?

In the Girls in ICT Day, Executiva promotes the Women in Technology Conference, to debate what keeps women away in this area.

To take technology as career is still not a seductive option for women, that occupy only 25% of jobs in computer sciences field - even less in programming software and in the top management of IT corporations. These numbers are provided by the study Women in Tech: The Facts 2016, made in the USA, that also indicates that in this fast-paced developing area women's presence is in decline, since in 1991 they represented 36% against the actual 25%.

If nothing is done to bring young women to technology, in 2025, the percentage of women will decrease to 22%, according to a study made by Accenture and Girls Who Code. The fact that women feel that their work and opinion is not valued, and not being invited to projects that are able to challenge them and give them visibility, forces them to look for jobs in other areas, where professional progress is more likely.

Executiva promotes the Women in Technology Conference in the 27th of April, in the Rectory of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where it will bring together corporations and women that work in IT to debate the reason why technology is still a masculine feud. The chosen date was the Girls in ICT Day, when all the world has their eyes set on the urgency of bringing more young women to IT.
