Higher inclusion of girls in ICT

State Secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Tatjana Matić, has spoken to primary school students who participated in the celebration of Girls in ICT Day, recommending to exploit new technologies in order to be successful in their future careers.

At the event that has been organized by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, Matić has pointed out that European Commission has predicted the lack of over 800,000 ICT jobs in Europe by the 2020, because currently there are not enough young people who are preparing to study mathematics, engineering and computer science.

“The possibility of employment and career development in ICT, is just one of the reasons for your involvement in this sector. ICT can help you to achieve your career goals in architecture, medicine, fashion industry, and in any other business, as well as to participate in creating a new world - so you would not be objects, but active social subjects", said State Secretary to the girls.

The guests at the event that took place in the Scientific Technology Park Belgrade, were primary school students from Šabac, Ub, Zrenjanin, Smederevo and Požarevac, to whom spoke as well the Assistant Minister for Electronic Communications and Professor of Electrical Engineering Faculty, Irini Reljin, the director of the Scientific Technology Park Belgrade, Gordana Danilović Grković, and the representatives of successful technology companies - Nordeus, Eipix Entertaiment, Ericcson and Microsoft.

On this occasion, the awards were handed to students that created the best blogs in the Ministry’s competition. The awards and gifts were provided by Ericcson and Microsoft.

Girls also took part in Microsoft workshops, using free Minecraft online programming guides for programming blogs. Representatives of organization Edulab held workshops in robotics, which are also part of the campaign - IT caravan 02, organized by the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, and there was a presentation of the technology of virtual reality - VR world.
