The Global Centre for ICT in Parliament was launched by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Inter-Parliamentary Union at the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) in November 2005 as an innovative framework where parliaments could come together to learn lessons and discuss strategies for the successful use of ICT. The Centre also provided a platform for stimulating the policy-making role of parliaments in shaping the development of the information society.
