Broadband access for all through public sites

Description

The Mexican government is mainstreaming ICTs by providing broadband access to public buildings through an in-house innovative model that indicates which is the most cost-effective technology option according to the communities’ dispersion and remoteness. Using this model, during 2012, the government contracted broadband Internet services for 34,000 public buildings both in rural and urban communities. Through demand aggregation, the government has achieved considerable savings as well as international quality of service standards. Such a large-scale connectivity effort in such a short period of time is unheard of in the region.
