Technolochicas


Description

This is the first national multi media campaign done in the United States targeting young Latinas and their families. It is bilingual to serve each persons language preference. It is also the first time that such a broad coalition of public, private, media and social partners join to tackle this issue. In particular the afterschool programs are creating new forms of collaborations to achieve a highly cost effective results.
The main objective is to reach young Latinas in the United States (12-18) and their families to inspire them to consider a career in technology by presenting effective role models, broadening their perspective with site visits and empowering them with new technology skills like coding and robotics.
Technolochicas includes a national multimedia campaign that presents the stories of five young Latinas with successful technology careers that share their excitement and passion with the technology opportunity.

Replicability


The afterschool program began as an effort with the Mexican Consulate in San Jose California and expanded to five cities involving two other consulates that leveraged the experience of their colleagues. Likewise, the program plans to expand to Mexico next year.


WSIS values promotion

By offering direct programming through near-peer mentorship and by creating new opportunities and welcoming spaces for girls and young women to expand their interest in computing and technology.
